Two very contentious little abbreviations – QTE and DRM – will have no bearing on The Witcher 3. That's according to CD Projekt RED project lead Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who confirmed with Forbes that the team is finally doing away with the former. On why they appear in The Witcher 1 and 2, Tomaszkiewicz said he thought they turned "a cutscene into something more interactive," but fan feedback has him convinced they should be eschewed altogether. "In my opinion [QTEs] didn't fit this type of gaming experience and usually frustrated players," he said. "There is a small number of games where it is fun, like, for example, in the Uncharted series, where you don't even realise that you've just finished a QTE sequence." Tomaszkiewicz also reaffirmed the studio's anti-DRM policy. "DRM is the worst thing in the gaming industry," he said. "It's limiting our rights to play games owned by us. Let's imagine that you have a game that requires internet connection to prove that you actually bought it. What if you lose your connection because of your internet provider? You can't play anymore. "I believe that as long as people feel that companies are cheating them by selling games they cannot play freely, limiting their rights, and making unfair DRM, then they will fight against that." The Witcher 3 is due "some time" in 2014. The post The Witcher 3 will abandon QTEs; DRM still off the cards appeared first on PC Gamer. | |||
