Star Trek Online three-year anniversary beams up guest appearance by Denise Crosby g21

Star Trek Online is about to boldly go into its third anniversary since engaging back in early 2010. From January 31 to February 14, captains can take part in the celebratory Temporal Ambassador Episode hosted by the mischievous Q. Along the way, you'll cross paths with an in-game guest appearance of actress Denise Crosby reprising her role as Lieutenant Tasha Yar, the former Chief Tactical Officer—you know, the one who gets to fire all the zappy phasers from the bridge—of the Enterprise from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Crosby joins Star Trek alums Leonard Nimoy (Spock from The Original Series), Chase Masterson (Leeta from Deep Space 9), and Zachary Quinto (Emergency Medical Hologram from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek film) in lending their characters' voice and appearance within Perfect World's space-voyaging MMO. Still no sign of Wesley, but considering the much-maligned ensign earned his own death parody video, we're probably better off not letting him on our bridge.

The Episode's story sends intrepid players into a nebula of temporal disturbances and involves the highly territorial Thorians as well as "Starfleet transponder codes dating back to the mid-24th century"—a time period conveniently covering the events of The Next Generation. Completing Q's tasks earns you a special Federation Ambassador Class or Klingon Kamarag Class ship.

Star Trek Online saw a fair bump in player count since going free-to-play in January of last year. Earlier this week, Executive Producer Dan Stahl claimed more than 2 million players are continuing to ply the galaxy's warp-ways after the transition. But that's just a fraction of the 4 billion Tribbles stowing away on everyone's ships, as shown in the milestone infographic below.
