Announced back in February, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter has resurfaced with some foreboding first screenshots. The game, made by a cabal of former People Can Fly devs, promises a mixture weird horror and macabre fiction. There's certainly a worrying isolation to the woodland mountains, and I can't think of any situation in which goat skulls would be used as a cheerful invitation. A press release from developer The Astronaut explains why you'll be wandering about the game's creepy setting: "In The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, you play as Paul Prospero, an occult detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter and realizes that the boy is in grave danger. When Paul arrives in Ethan's home of Red Creek Valley, he realizes things are even worse than he imagined. Ethan has vanished in the wake of a brutal murder, which Paul comes to see might not be the only murder to investigate. Using both regular and supernatural detective skills, Paul must figure out what happened to the missing boy." According to the developers, the game plays out in first person. The player can use Paul's supernatural powers to see the final moments of a murder victim. It'll be up to you piece together the clues from these visions. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is due out later this year. The post The Vanishing of Ethan Carter first screenshots: woodlands and goat skulls appeared first on PC Gamer. | |||
